Editorial policy and how we make money

We make money from one app on this site, and that app is ours. Here is exactly how that works and what we do to stop it bending the coverage.

The short version

• SmartClean is our own app. Links to it are affiliate links and they earn us money.
• Every other link earns us nothing. Links to Cleaner Guru, Cleanup, Cleaner Kit, Smart Cleaner, Boost Cleaner and Slidebox are plain links to the App Store. We have no relationship with any of those developers and no commission from them.
• Our links are marked where they appear, not only here.

How we stop it bending the coverage

• Our app is not placed first by default. It is ranked by the same four criteria as everything else, and on track record it loses badly: 32 ratings against hundreds of thousands.
• Comparison tables show where we lose. Every table on this site includes rows our app fails.
• We recommend competitors by name when they are the better fit, and link to them without a commission.

What we will not do

• Invent testing we did not perform, or quote figures we cannot source.
• Put a fake expert with a fake biography on an article.
• Use countdowns, fake scarcity or made-up discounts.
• Quote a subscription price Apple does not publish.

Corrections

App listings change. Every page carries the date it was last checked against Apple's catalogue, and we re-check monthly. If something is out of date or wrong, it gets fixed and the date gets updated.
